This Summer, Education Services partnered with Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust to deliver Life at the Lake – a series of six weekly drop-in sessions based at Stocker’s Lake in Rickmansworth. Each session focused on a different topic, from Adaptations and Lifecycles to Pollution and Seasonal changes, and every week there were creatures from the lake for the public to study as well as information on Affinity Water’s work and useful water-saving tips.
We were delighted to welcome over 800 visitors across the six weeks, several of whom returned two or three times to find out more. People were consistently amazed by the abundance and variety of life in Stocker’s Lake and many had no idea how important wetland habitats are to wider ecosystems. We helped them to better understand where their drinking water comes from and inspired them to use it wisely – therefore leaving more water in their local natural environment.
We are hoping to run more activities aimed at families next summer – look out for further information in future newsletters to pass on to your students.
