During the past academic year, Affinity Water’s Education Team have launched their “spill a penny, spend a pound” initiative to help raise awareness of global water issues.
Students visiting the Education Centre take part in hands on activities to learn about access to water and how this varies across the globe. All those who visited the Education Centre in Bushey Heath in 2016-17 were invited to make a voluntary contribution to WaterAid from anywhere between 1p to £1 into their giant water bottle. These contributions amounted to a grand total of £743.25!
Affinity Water has supported WaterAid’s vision to transform lives by improving access to safe water, taps and toilets in some of the world’s poorest communities since 1981. The “spill a penny, spend a pound” initiative has helped the centre’s visitors grasp how much water is used in the UK compared to other parts of the world, and raised awareness about the inequalities that exist with access to safe drinking water on a global scale.
We are proud to support WaterAid’s vision of a world where everyone has access to safe water and sanitation; and would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all our visitors who contributed to this initiative.
